Elderly Women Lose Savings to ‘Thank You for the Trolley’ Scam

A 17-year-old suspect was apprehended in Warsaw after allegedly stealing tens of thousands of zlotys and gold jewelry from elderly women using the code phrase “thank you for the trolley.”

The Fraudulent Scheme

Criminal investigators quickly identified a 17-year-old suspect involved in two separate fraud cases. The suspect visited elderly women on a daily basis, collecting packages containing cash and valuables upon hearing the password “thank you for the trolley.”

In one instance, the suspect took 20,000 PLN, while in another, he stole 40,000 PLN in cash and gold jewelry valued at a minimum of 50,000 PLN.

Investigation and Apprehension

The victims learned of the group’s activities after being informed that scammers were planning to steal their savings. Detectives used operational findings and secured evidence to identify the 17-year-old, who was arrested as he was returning home.

The suspect has been presented with two charges of committing fraud based on the gathered evidence.

Legal Proceedings

The Warsaw-Praga Południe District Prosecutor requested temporary arrest, but the court decided on police supervision twice a week. The investigation is currently being overseen by the Warsaw-Praga Południe District Prosecutor’s Office.
