Emergency landing at Chopin Airport. Lowest alert level introduced

A WizzAir plane flying to Barcelona had to return and land at Warsaw’s Chopin Airport due to a technical fault.

Incident details

A WizzAir aircraft flying from Warsaw to Barcelona had to turn back and make an emergency landing at Chopin Airport before 6 AM on Tuesday, September 30. The Airbus A321neo was carrying 150 passengers, who landed safely in Warsaw.

Technical issue confirmed

RMF FM reported that the plane was diverted to Warsaw shortly after takeoff due to a technical malfunction. As a result, the lowest alert level, known as “local readiness,” was activated at Chopin Airport. The procedure was canceled before 7 AM.

What is “local readiness”?

According to a ministerial regulation from February 1, 2022, “local readiness” is declared “when it is necessary to ensure the safety of an aircraft, vehicle, construction object, or person inside or within sight, without requiring immediate assistance.” Higher alert levels include “full readiness” (for serious or imminent danger requiring immediate help) and “aviation accident” (for incidents occurring in the airport’s operational area).
