Emergency landing at Chopin Airport: Wizz Air flight returns to Warsaw

A Wizz Air plane bound for Barcelona was forced to turn back and land at Warsaw’s Chopin Airport early Tuesday due to a technical issue.

Incident details

A Wizz Air Airbus A321neo, carrying 150 passengers, departed Warsaw for Barcelona on Tuesday, September 30, but had to return and land safely at Chopin Airport before 6:00 AM.

The aircraft was diverted due to a technical malfunction, prompting the activation of a local emergency response at the airport, which was later lifted before 7:00 AM.

Local emergency response

According to Polish regulations, “local readiness” is declared when immediate assistance is not required but safety measures are necessary for an aircraft, vehicle, structure, or person within its vicinity.

Higher alert levels include “full readiness” (for imminent serious danger requiring immediate aid) and “aviation accident” (for incidents occurring within the airport’s operational area).
