End of RBN Meeting: Presidential Palace Speaks, Tusk Exits Early

National Security Council meeting concluded after nearly six hours of discussion, with President Nawrocki calling it necessary and substantive.

RBN Meeting Concludes

The National Security Council meeting lasted nearly six hours. According to Head of the Presidential Chancellery Zbigniew Bogucki, this fact demonstrates the necessity of the discussion and the correctness of President Karol Nawrocki’s decision to convene the RBN. The Deputy Marshal of the Sejm described the conversation as tough, substantive, and sometimes tense.

Bogucki reported that the President had many questions about the SAFE program but initially received no answers. However, an agreement was eventually reached. The head of the Presidential Chancellery also emphasized that the goal was not to attack the government. When discussing the Peace Council, Nawrockie presented his position, stating that unfortunately the government’s position remains unknown.

The final issue concerned Włodzimierz Czarzasty’s failure to submit a security questionnaire. “The Marshal decided not to answer these questions,” Bogucki informed.

Tusk Exits RBN

Onet reported that Donald Tusk left the National Security Council meeting during the discussion about the Peace Council. Journalists noted he did not want to participate in the next agenda item, which concerned discussions on “actions taken by state authorities to clarify all circumstances of eastern social-business contacts of Marshal of the Sejm Włodzimierz Czarzasty.”

Zgorzelski Reveals Reason

Deputy Marshal Piotr Zgorzelski offered a different explanation for Tusk’s departure. “He certainly didn’t leave because he didn’t want to participate in this point,” he said on TVN24. He noted that Tusk had other obligations, mentioned he would leave earlier, and “I think no one should be surprised by that.”

When asked if the reason was the point about Czarzasty, the politician responded: “No, I think he considered that the third point was not substantive but political, as do I. After all, what can one say on such a point during a National Security Council meeting that would be related to the scope of the RBN’s activities?”

Tusk Travels to Belgium

The obligations mentioned by Zgorzelski may relate to preparations for a trip. The head of government will travel to Belgium, where on Thursday an informal meeting of European Union leaders will take place. The meeting will discuss ways to strengthen the single market, reduce economic dependencies, and increase EU competitiveness in the new geo-economic context.

“In the current geopolitical situation, strengthening our single market is more than ever an urgent strategic priority,” said European Council President Antonio Costa.
