Epstein Left $5 Million to French Minister’s Daughter in Will. Clouds Hang Over Influential Family

Jack Lang, former French culture minister, and his daughter Caroline face scrutiny over ties to Jeffrey Epstein after court documents revealed their close relationship.

French Politician’s Ties to Epstein

Jack Lang, a prominent left-wing politician and former French culture minister under François Mitterrand, now heads the Arab World Institute in Paris. His name frequently appears in Jeffrey Epstein case files. The 86-year-old Lang and the convicted sex offender corresponded and met, with Epstein claiming to be “a member of Lang’s family.” Epstein planned to finance a film about Lang, who stated he befriended Epstein through director Woody Allen and was unaware of his crimes. They maintained close relations even after Epstein’s conviction.

Daughter Resigns Over Business Links

Publications and revelations about Epstein’s connections have impacted Jack Lang’s daughter, Caroline. An actress and long-time director of Warner Bros. France, she headed the association of independent film producers before resigning after it emerged she co-managed a Caribbean company with Epstein that was undeclared to French tax authorities. Additionally, Epstein bequeathed her $5 million in his will. Case files contain no evidence suggesting the Langs were involved in Epstein’s sex crimes.

US Department Releases Epstein Documents

On Friday, January 30, the U.S. Department of Justice released over 3 million documents related to the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes. The release was mandated by the Epstein Files Transparency Act, passed by Congress and signed by President Trump on November 19, 2025. The package also included over 2,000 films and 180,000 photographs. Documents were sourced from five main investigations, including cases in Florida and New York against Epstein, the New York case against Ghislaine Maxwell, the Epstein death investigation, and an Office of Inspector General probe. The department instructed reviewers to limit censorship to protecting victims and their families. All women in the photos and films were treated as crime victims by prosecutors.
