EU officials say they have no knowledge of the newly revised U.S. peace plan for Ukraine, which has been kept confidential from Brussels.
EU officials unaware of revised U.S. plan
Politico reports that European Union officials do not have access to the content of the U.S. peace plan for Ukraine. The plan’s details have been kept secret from Brussels to prevent leaks to the media.
New plan reduced to 19 points
According to sources, the revised plan has been trimmed from the original 28‑point format down to 19 points, according to the Washington Post. What remains is unclear, as the updated version is not shared with EU diplomats.
Previous 28‑point proposal included significant cuts
The earlier 28‑point plan called for reducing Ukraine’s armed forces to 600,000 troops, the loss of territories occupied by Russia, and closing Ukraine’s path to NATO. Those provisions have been altered or removed.
Negotiations took place in Geneva on Nov. 23
The U.S. and Ukrainian delegations met in Geneva on 23 November to discuss every point of the plan. Ukrainian officials said the U.S. version no longer existed in its prior form.
Ukraine’s response to plan changes
Ukrainian adviser Aleksander Bevz said the country reviewed every element of the U.S. proposal, and none of its comments went unanswered. EU officials expressed frustration at being kept out of the process.
