European Arrest Warrant Requested for Zbigniew Ziobro

Polish prosecutors have requested a European Arrest Warrant for former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, who faces 26 criminal charges.

Prosecutors have issued a request for a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) for Zbigniew Ziobro. The case concerns suspected irregularities in the Justice Fund. According to Prosecutor Przemysław Nowak, spokesman for the National Public Prosecutor’s Office, the application specifies that Ziobro is suspected of committing 26 crimes.

The Regional Court for Warsaw-Mokotów confirmed the high probability of commission of these acts in its ruling of February 5, 2026, on applying temporary detention against the suspect.

Criminal Charges Against Ziobro

Zbigniew Ziobro, a member of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party and former Minister of Justice, is facing 26 charges including leading an organized criminal group. The investigation concerns the embezzlement of funds from the Justice Fund.

Temporary Arrest Issued

Last week, a court in Warsaw applied a three-month temporary detention against Ziobra. The court’s decision opened the way for issuing a European Arrest Warrant against the former minister of justice.

Ziobro’s Current Whereabouts

Prosecutors have determined that the suspect, Zbigniew Ziobro, is likely hiding in one of the EU member states to avoid criminal liability. His place of residence is unknown. On February 6, 2026, the prosecutor initiated searches for the suspect with an arrest warrant. Ziobro has received political asylum in Hungary.
