Ex‑Mayor of Murowana Goślinia Sentenced for Sexually Abusing Stepdaughter; Court Alters Verdict

Dariusz U., former mayor of Murowana Goślinia, was convicted in 2024 of sexually exploiting a teenage stepdaughter and abusing his wife, but an appellate court later modified his punishment.

Initial conviction

Dariusz U. was charged with sexually exploiting a teenage stepdaughter and abusing his wife in 2024. The Poznań District Court found him guilty of sexual exploitation of the stepdaughter, psychological abuse of his wife and her daughter, and violence against his former wife. He used abusive language, threatened, and beat the former wife.

He received a sentence of two years and four months in prison, was ordered to pay court costs, and was prohibited from contacting or approaching the stepdaughter within 100 meters. The court’s reasoning was not disclosed to the public.

Appeal court decision

Following appeals by the prosecutor and the defendant’s lawyer, the Poznań Regional Court upheld the original ruling but added a five‑year ban on holding any positions or performing any profession related to the care, education, or supervision of minors.

Except for the added restriction, the appellate court maintained the original sentence, and the former mayor was then transferred to a prison facility to serve his term.

Corruption charges

In 2022, Dariusz U. was detained by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau. Investigations determined that he accepted financial benefits in exchange for awarding municipality‑funded services to private businesses. He was also accused of exceeding his official authority, encouraging the production of false documents, violating the secrecy of proceedings, and concealing income in a financial statement.

He faces up to ten years in prison for the 24 corruption-related offences charged against him.
