Three Polish men were arrested after a bankomat explosion triggered a high-speed chase with Slovak police in northern Slovakia.
Explosion Triggers Pursuit
A dramatic scene unfolded in the Liptovsky Mikulas district of Slovakia when perpetrators detonated explosives at a bankomat in the Demanova Valley. Following the explosion, masked men fled the scene in an Audi vehicle, prompting an immediate police response that involved all available resources including a police helicopter and drones.
Intense Chase Leads to Shooting
The Audi was later located in the Ruzomberk district, but the suspects continued their escape toward the Orava region. During the pursuit, the suspects threw caltrops onto the road, causing a police vehicle’s tire to puncture. Police then fired warning shots at the fleeing vehicle when the driver failed to stop. One officer shot the rear left tire of the Audi, but the vehicle continued despite the damage.
Arrest and Charges
The chase concluded in the village of Sedliacka Dubova in the Dolny Kubin district, where the suspects’ vehicle skidded and crashed into a residential fence. Three Polish men aged 46, 48, and 53 were arrested and charged with theft and property damage in connection with an assault on a public official. Additionally, the 48-year-old driver was charged with dangerous driving that endangered the lives and health of multiple road users.
Citizen Cooperation
Slovakian police thanked citizens who promptly reported the bankomat explosion, noting that their quick response and responsible attitude significantly contributed to the rapid intervention and apprehension of the suspects.
