Explosive Packages Linked to Russian Intelligence

Lithuanian authorities have found that recent explosions at DHL logistics centers in Europe were orchestrated by individuals linked to Russian intelligence.

Investigation Findings

The Lithuanian General Prosecutor’s Office, in conjunction with local police, has determined that the explosions at DHL logistics centers in Europe were carried out by individuals connected to Russian intelligence in Moscow, according to a Reuters report.

The investigators also found that the same group was responsible for setting fire to an Ikea store in Vilnius.

Method of Operation

The suspects used international courier services DHL and DPD on July 19, 2024, to send four packages from Vilnius to various European countries.

Inside the packages, the suspects had placed homemade explosive devices with adjustable detonation power.

Foiled Plot

The intended goal was to cause explosions on transport planes in Europe, but the packages instead exploded on the ground in Birmingham, UK, and Leipzig, Germany.

Two other packages exploded in DHL warehouses.
