Polish prosecutors have analyzed data from the black boxes of an F-16 fighter jet that crashed in Radom, Poland, on August 28, killing the pilot.
Investigation Update
The Polish prosecutor’s office announced that the black box data was read in a licensed laboratory in the US, in the presence of a Polish prosecutor and an expert from the Military Gendarmerie’s Forensic Laboratory.
The data will be further analyzed as part of the investigation into the crash.
Crash Circumstances
The F-16 jet, piloted by 35-year-old Major Maciej Krakowian, crashed during exercises before the Air Show in Radom on August 28 at around 19:25.
The pilot died on the spot, and the air show was subsequently canceled.
Investigation and Evidence
The investigation involved 61 military gendarmerie officers examining a 35-hectare area, using specialized equipment such as 3D scanners, drones, and precision measurement devices.
The pilot’s body was examined at the Warsaw Medical University’s Forensic Medicine Department, and a camera belonging to the pilot was secured.
Several dozen witnesses were also questioned.
Parallel Investigations
An independent investigation was conducted by the Polish State Commission for the Investigation of Aviation Accidents, which will establish the causes and circumstances of the crash and formulate recommendations.
