False Bomb Threats and Identity Theft: Innocent Man Detained as Police Probe Foreign Links

Authorities are investigating a series of malicious false emergency reports that led to the wrongful detention of a 53-year-old man, while police now explore potential coordination from Eastern European sources.

False Emergency Reports

Law enforcement continues to investigate a series of false alarms concerning public safety and life-threatening situations. These fraudulent reports triggered a police intervention at the home of the Telewizja Republika editor-in-chief on Friday, May 15, following claims that a child was attempting suicide by gas inhalation.

Wrongful Detention and Identity Theft

The Metropolitan Police announced that they had initially detained a 53-year-old man in connection with the threats and seized his electronic equipment. Subsequent investigations revealed that the man’s personal data and email accounts had been compromised and used without his authorization.

Status Change and Ongoing Investigation

The man has been released from custody and will have his status changed to that of a victim. Two additional individuals have also been identified as victims of similar identity theft. Police are currently investigating an “Eastern” link, as evidence suggests the operation was a large-scale, coordinated effort requiring significant planning.
