Fast City Guard Response Saves Wounded Cyclist in Warsaw

On December 12, Warsaw city guards treated a 68‑year‑old cyclist hit by a car on Maczka Street within seconds, before ambulance aid arrived.

Rapid Response on Maczka Street

At just before 2 pm on December 12, two city guards from the II Battalion on Bemowo noted a man lying in a pool of blood on Maczka Street, beside a fallen bicycle. One officer, a KPP rescue specialist, grabbed a rescue backpack and ran to the injured man.

Both guards immediately secured the scene, confirmed that ambulance and other services were notified, and began first‑aid procedures.

Medical Stabilization and Emergency Transport

The cyclist sustained a severe head injury with a suspected skull fracture. While firefighter crew on arrival had stopped the serious bleeding, the guards applied a cervical collar and monitored the victim.

Later that day, police and emergency services took over, transported the 68‑year‑old man to a hospital for further treatment.

Second Incident on Ochota Two Hours Later

City guards from the III Battalion witnessed a pedestrian struck in the crosswalk at the intersection of Drwieska and Bohaterów Września. The 68‑year‑old victim showed no visible injuries but received pre‑hospital care from the guards.

Police and ambulance followed, and the senior was taken to hospital after the guards recorded witness statements for later investigation.

City Guard Training and Preparedness

Warsaw’s city guard employs more than 140 officers with medical qualifications, including EMTs and KPP rescue specialists. All guards attend regular advanced first‑aid training.

The incident underscores the readiness of the city police to provide immediate emergency assistance across Warsaw.
