Fatal Collision at Jasienica Crossing; 70‑Year‑Old Woman Killed

On 20 November 2025, before 10 a.m., a 70‑year‑old woman was fatally struck by train IC 1003/2 “Esperanto” at the Jasienica crossing near Warsaw.

Incident Details

At roughly 9:45 a.m. on 20 November 2025, a 70‑year‑old woman entered the track at the Jasienica level crossing, with the rails open, and was struck by the IC 1003/2 “Esperanto” train heading from Łódź Fabryczna to Białystok. She died on site.

Crossing Conditions

Preliminary findings indicate that the crossing rails were down and the signalling system operated correctly. The woman bypassed the crossing safeguards and stepped onto the track just before the train’s arrival. The train, moving at high speed, did not halt until several hundred metres after the impact.

Investigation

Police, under prosecutor supervision, and railway staff are conducting procedural investigations to determine details and circumstances. Early assessments point to an accidental incident caused by the pedestrian’s action.

Passenger Evacuation

Firefighters conducted an evacuation of IC 1003/2 passengers. Travelers were safely transferred to a replacement train on an adjacent track to continue their journey. Train traffic in the area was limited, and some trains were diverted to alternate platforms.

Service Disruptions

The railway company announced an incident involving the human and train 1003/2 on the Tłuszcz–Wołomin section. Adjustments to arrival and departure platforms and tracks were made, and passengers were notified that delays could reach up to 20 minutes. Mutual ticket‑honouring arrangements were also introduced between Koleje Mazowieckie and PKP Intercity on the Tłuszcz–Warsaw West section. The IC 1003/2 was cancelled on the Tłuszcz–Białystok segment; passengers were offered alternate long‑distance services, with ticket honours for PKP Intercity train 61106/7 “Dąbrowska” from Wrocław Główny to Białystok on the same segment.
