A deadly accident involving two vans on the S17 expressway near Gadka, Otwock County, resulted in one fatality and two injuries this afternoon.
Accident Details
Shortly before 4:00 PM, a tragic collision occurred on the S17 expressway in Gadka, Otwock County, involving two vans. The incident resulted in one death and left two individuals injured, requiring hospitalization.
Initial findings suggest both vehicles had stopped on the shoulder of the road heading towards Lublin, potentially as part of a humanitarian mission traveling from Lithuania to Ukraine.
Rescue Operation
The driver of a Citroen van collided with a stationary Volkswagen for reasons currently under investigation. The impact was severe, trapping two occupants inside the Citroen.
Firefighters used hydraulic tools to extricate the individuals. Despite rescue efforts, one passenger could not be saved. The driver and another passenger were transported to a hospital.
Condition of Other Driver & Emergency Response
The occupants of the Volkswagen were unharmed. Both drivers tested negative for alcohol. Five fire crews, medical teams, police, and a helicopter from the Air Ambulance Service (Ratownik 12) were dispatched to the scene.
Investigation and Road Closure
Police are conducting further investigations under the supervision of the prosecutor to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the accident.
The accident has caused significant traffic disruptions for drivers heading towards Lublin. The road in that direction is completely blocked, and delays are expected to last several hours.
