Fatal Crash Near Warsaw: Driver Charged Following Deadly Collision

A 37-year-old driver has been charged by the Wołomin District Prosecutor’s Office following a Saturday evening collision in Zielonka that resulted in the deaths of two men and left one critically injured.

The Circumstances of the Incident

The accident occurred on Saturday, June 6, at approximately 7:40 PM. A Honda driven by a 37-year-old man, operating as a ride-sharing vehicle, collided with an Audi at an intersection in Zielonka. Previous media reports incorrectly identified the location as Ząbkach.

Investigators determined that the Honda driver initiated an illegal U-turn from the far-right lane, which is designated exclusively for right-hand turns. This maneuver placed the car directly into the path of the Audi, which was traveling straight in the left lane.

Tragic Consequences and Rescue Efforts

Following the impact, the Audi veered off the road and struck a traffic light pole. Two men in the Audi, aged 22 and 23, died as a result of the crash, while a 24-year-old remains in critical condition. Police confirmed the Honda driver was sober at the time.

Emergency responders, including police, firefighters, and medical personnel, arrived at the scene. An air ambulance from the LPR (Polish Medical Air Rescue) was deployed, and firefighters utilized specialized equipment to extricate a trapped passenger from the wreckage of the Audi.

Legal Charges and Ongoing Investigation

The Wołomin District Prosecutor’s Office has formally charged 37-year-old Bayram A. with violating road safety regulations. Investigators cited a failure to exercise due caution, improper observation of the road, poor driving technique, and an illegal lane change as the primary causes of the collision.

The suspect faces a potential prison sentence ranging from six months to eight years. During questioning, the man refused to enter a plea or provide an explanation. Prosecutors have since filed a motion with the District Court in Wołomin to hold the suspect in temporary detention for three months.
