Wednesday brought difficult road conditions to Warsaw and surrounding areas with traffic jams and collisions following snow and wet snow.
Difficult Conditions Across the Region
Very difficult road conditions are present in Warsaw and the surrounding region on Wednesday. Snow began to fall before noon, and after 14:00, precipitation turned to wet snow, which resulted in significant slowdowns on many routes.
Currently, passage through most Warsaw streets is heavily impeded, and traffic jams are also forming on roads in districts around Warsaw. Drivers are reporting problems across a wide area – from Sochaczew to Wyszków, as well as on roads from Warsaw to places including Mszczonów, Grójec, Kołbiel, Nowy Dwór Mazowieckiego, Serock, and Warka.
Traffic Jams and Collisions Reported
With deteriorating weather, many road accidents are occurring. On the S8 highway, near Mostówka toward Warsaw, a car hit barriers. Meanwhile, on ul. Czecha in the Kościuszkowców area, a municipal bus “broke down,” causing a major traffic jam toward Warsaw.
Difficulties are also present on the S17 highway – near the town of Ostrowik toward Lublin, a vehicle collision occurred, and traffic is partially blocked. Another incident happened on the S8 highway near Radzymin toward Warsaw, but difficulties are present in both directions.
Uncleared Surfaces Increase Risks
Problems with road passage are also reported on many sections, including expressways where the surface appears to be uncleared, which additionally affects driving speed and the risk of further collisions.
