Fatal Wrong-Way Collision Closes A1 Motorway in Łódź Region

A wrong-way driver died instantly after a head-on collision on the A1 motorway near Tuszyn early Sunday morning, leaving three people from the second vehicle hospitalized and traffic paralyzed.

Collision Details

The accident occurred around 2:25 a.m. on Sunday on the A1 motorway heading toward Gdańsk, specifically between the Tuszyn and Łódź Południe junctions. Two passenger cars were involved in a head-on crash.

Casualties and Investigation

According to preliminary findings from the Koluszki District Police, the perpetrator entered the motorway against the flow of traffic and struck an Audi head-on. The driver responsible for the crash died at the scene, while three individuals from the Audi were transported to a hospital.

Traffic Disruptions and Diversions

The A1 motorway remains blocked in the direction of Gdańsk. The Łódź East District Police have organized diversions via the Tuszyn junction onto the DK12 and S8 roads.

Ongoing Emergency Operations

As of 10:00 a.m. Sunday, emergency services were still working at the scene. Authorities are currently attempting to clear and reopen at least one lane of the motorway to restore traffic flow toward Gdańsk.
