Jan O., father of priest Michał Olszewski, was charged on December 4 in Włocławek with criminal group participation, VAT fraud and false invoicing, and could receive up to 20 years in prison.
Charges Leveled Against Jan O.
On December 4, the Włocławek District Prosecutor’s Office charged Jan O. with three offences: participation in an organised criminal group, VAT fraud and issuing false invoices. The indictment alleges the crimes were carried out between 2018 and 2019.
Financial Damages to the State
The prosecution says Jan O.’s activities caused the state to lose more than PLN 760,000. His sole proprietorship reportedly issued 135 unreliable invoices to six companies for services that were either not performed or overvalued.
Statutory Penalties and Conditions
Because the false invoices totalled over PLN 5 million, exceeding the threshold for “high‑value property,” Jan O. faces up to 20 years in prison. He is under police supervision, must post a PLN 5,000 bail, and is required to report twice a month.
Priest Olszewski’s Release and Current Status
Priest Michał Olszewski was released from custody in October after paying a PLN 350,000 bail pledged by the Sercan order. He remains under police supervision, has a travel ban, and will stay at his monastery while facing charges related to alleged irregularities in the Justice Fund.
