Minnesota residents describe military-style occupation as 2,000 heavily armed federal agents conduct mass deportation operations in the state.
Military-Like Operation in Minnesota
Battalions of federal agents parade through streets with visibly raised automatic rifles, dozens of unmarked vehicles block intersections and main arteries, and helicopters circle residential districts for hours. Minnesota residents, known for harsh winters and progressive traditions in northern USA, now compare their daily lives to living under military occupation.
Mass Deportation Campaign
In early January, the administration deployed 2,000 heavily armed agents to Minnesota, a state with less than 6 million people, for mass deportations of foreigners who have allegedly abused American hospitality. To meet daily arrest quotas set from above, ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and Border Patrol agents have been authorized to employ aggressive tactics that critics compare to paramilitary organization methods.
Aggressive Tactics and Public Concerns
Social media has filled with videos showing masked men in tactical gear searching supermarkets and McDonald’s. They stop random cars, pulling out passengers who resist, and apprehending pedestrians with darker skin or foreign accents. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison declared, “This is tyranny. There’s no other way to describe it,” adding, “I never thought America could look like this.”
Administration’s Justification
As with previous operations in Los Angeles and Chicago, President Trump and his advisors have portrayed the Minneapolis operation as a crusade against “the worst of the worst,” foreign criminals who supposedly found refuge in the US thanks to Joe Biden’s liberal immigration policies.
