Fewer Voters Back Orban’s Fidesz; Ziobro and Romanowski Face Concerns

Recent polls indicate that Viktor Orban’s Fidesz party is losing electoral support in Hungary, with increased backing for Peter Magyar’s TISZA, while senior opposition figures Ziobro and Romanowski grow wary.

Will Orban Lose Power in Hungary?

Recent polls suggest Viktor Orban’s party could lose power in Hungary. An increasing number of respondents say they would vote for Peter Magyar’s TISZA party. The latest Publicus Institute poll, published by Nepszava, notes: “last month (…) Fidesz managed to narrow the gap by one or two percentage points, but in November the lead for Peter Magyar’s party rose again.” Across the population, TISZA currently outpaces Fidesz by seven percentage points (33% to 26%). Only 33% of respondents wish for Orban’s party to stay in power.

At the same time, 81% declare they will definitely vote in the 2026 parliamentary elections. The phone survey ran from 10 to 18 November with a sample of 1,002 adults.

Orban Unafraid of Upcoming Elections

A few days ago Viktor Orban said he is not afraid of losing the upcoming elections. “I am not only a record‑holder as prime minister but also as opposition leader,” the politician told Politico. Orban has been the uninterrupted prime minister of Hungary since 2010, and previously from 1998 to 2002, making him the longest‑serving head of government in the country’s history.

What Happens to Ziobro and Romanowski if Fidesz Loses?

Peter Magyar told Marcin Romanowski in Gazeta Wyborcza to intensify efforts to find another country where he could conceal himself, criticizing Prime Minister Orban for granting asylum to a wanted Polish politician—a decision he says should be left to state institutions and courts, not the PM.

Meanwhile, Polish lawyer and former Interior Minister Zbigniew Ziobro remains in Hungary, facing 26 charges ranging from abuse of power to running a criminal organization.
