Fire at Primary School in Mikołajki Pomorskie
Portal Zawsze Pomorze reported that on Thursday, February 5, around 11:30, firefighters received a report of a fire at a primary school in Mikołajki Pomorskie in the Sztum county (Pomeranian Voivodeship).
For safety reasons, about 120 people – students, teachers, and administrative staff – were evacuated from the facility. They took refuge in a neighboring building.
The fire department reported that no one was injured.
Soot Ignition in Chimney Identified as Cause
Services determined that soot ignited in one of the school building’s chimneys. Four fire brigades were on site.
The firefighters’ actions prevented the spread of fire. The circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated.
Possible Chimney Blockage Cited
RMF FM reported that the school in Mikołajki Pomorski consists of two buildings, an older and a newer one.
The station reported that the flue in the older building was likely clogged.
