Fire at Warsaw University Forces Evacuation of Nearly 200

A fire broke out on the faculty of geology of Warsaw University on November 14, forcing evacuation of almost 200 students and staff.

Fire Breaks Out at Geology Faculty

The fire erupted on the first floor of the Geology Faculty building at 93 Żwirki i Wigury on November 14, just before 11 a.m. TVP Info reported that cables in the electrical distribution board had ignited, producing smoke. Fortunately no injuries were reported. Nearly 200 occupants were evacuated, fire crews and university technical services worked on the scene.

Employee’s Quick Action Saves the Day

One staff member immediately noticed the fire and called the fire brigade, allowing a swift response. The incident was also contained because the room was closed, limiting the spread of flames, according to Captain Paweł Baranz of the Warsaw City Fire Department.

Investigation into Cause Ongoing

Fire services are currently determining the cause of the blaze, with further details expected as the investigation proceeds.
