Fire Breaks Out at Pomeranian Shopping Center

A fire erupted Tuesday morning at a shopping center in Pomerania, Poland, prompting evacuations and a large-scale firefighting response.

Fire Reported at Pomeranian Market

The fire broke out Tuesday, April 14th, and quickly spread. The facility covered an area of approximately 2,400 square meters, with large plumes of smoke visible in the area. Footage from the scene was shared on social media.

Initial reports indicated a possible fire involving pallets near the market, which then extended to a furniture store. Due to atmospheric conditions, a decision was made to evacuate 50 residents of the surrounding neighborhood.

Evacuations and Medical Assistance

Six employees evacuated the store independently. Three individuals reported feeling unwell, and a medical rescue team was dispatched to the scene, according to junior captain Joanna Knop of the Chojnice County State Fire Service.

Firefighting Efforts and Air Quality

Firefighters estimated that extinguishing the fire would take several hours. The primary focus was to contain the blaze and prevent its further spread, while also monitoring air quality. No injuries were reported.

Units Involved in Response

The firefighting operation involved units from the Voivodeship State Fire Service in Gdańsk, as well as volunteer fire brigades from Karsin (Kościerski County) and Czarna Woda (Starogardzki County), according to senior captain Andrzej Piechowski.

Fire Contained, Investigation Underway

By after noon, authorities reported that the fire was being brought under control. “Currently, the fire is no longer spreading. Extinguishing operations are continuing from the outside and from above,” said Knop. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
