A fire broke out Tuesday morning, April 14th, at a market in Pomerania, quickly spreading and prompting evacuations in the area.
Fire Breaks Out, Spreads Quickly
The fire erupted on Tuesday, April 14th, and rapidly spread. Large plumes of smoke are visible in the surrounding area, and footage from the scene has been shared on social media.
Firefighters are conducting intensive firefighting operations, with 26 fire crews currently on site.
Initial Reports and Evacuations
The initial report concerned a possible fire involving pallets near the market. The fire subsequently spread to a furniture store. Due to atmospheric conditions, a decision was made to evacuate the housing estate and a nearby school.
Six employees evacuated the store independently, and three individuals reported feeling unwell. A medical rescue team is present at the scene, according to Junior Captain Joanna Knop of the Chojnice District State Fire Brigade.
Firefighting Efforts and Air Quality
Firefighters estimate that extinguishing the fire will take several more hours. The priority is to contain the blaze and prevent further spread, while also monitoring air quality.
