A fire that began Friday at 4:45 PM at a tire recycling facility in Rozental continues to burn, with over 100 firefighters working to contain it.
Fire Still Uncontained
The fire remains uncontrolled, with efforts focused on preventing its spread, according to Gdańsk Voivodeship PSP spokesperson Junior Firefighter Dawid Westrych on Saturday.
Over 100 Firefighters Involved
More than 100 firefighters are engaged in the operation, which has been divided into three combat sections. A drone team is also monitoring the fire’s development using thermal imaging.
Challenges Posed by Tire Material
Westrych acknowledged the difficulty of the firefighting operation due to the nature of the stored material – thousands of tires are ablaze.
Gradual Removal of Burning Material
A key element of the operation involves gradually dismantling and removing the burning pile using heavy equipment. Two excavators and one loader are working to successively remove the burning material.
Improving Extinguishing Effectiveness
This is intended to increase the effectiveness of extinguishing and more accurately locate sources of the fire.
No Threat to Residents – Precautions Advised
There is no immediate threat to nearby residents, but authorities recommend staying indoors and keeping windows closed, Westrych stated. The estimated time for completing the operation remains uncertain.
Fire Reported Friday Afternoon
Firefighters received a report of the fire around 4:45 PM on Friday. A tire shredding machine and a pile of granulated material caught fire. Thick, dark plumes of smoke were visible from a distance. No injuries were reported.
