A handful of wealthy foreigners have utilized Poland’s special tax incentive to relocate their tax residence to the country.
Poland’s Tax Relocation Incentive
The program officially called “flat tax on foreign income of persons relocating their place of residence to the territory of the Republic of Poland” was introduced four years ago to attract wealthy foreigners to move their tax residence to Poland.
Limited Adoption in Recent Years
No individuals decided to utilize this tax preference in 2022-2023, despite its existence. Authorities had not anticipated such low popularity for the incentive.
Modest Interest from Potential Beneficiaries
The Ministry of Finance data and a mere 40 individual interpretations issued by the National Tax Information Office indicate minimal interest. Most inquiries focus on whether foreign income qualifies for Poland’s flat tax rate, which tax authorities typically confirm.
Alternative Incentive More Popular
A different tax incentive for returning residents appears to be more popular than the program designed for wealthy foreigners relocating their tax residence to Poland.
