German tourists found dead on Cima Vertana
Five tour‑guests were recovered after an avalanche on Sunday at 2,600–3,200 m on the summit of Cima Vertana in South Tyrol. The victims included a father and his 17‑year‑old daughter, two men and a woman.
Helicopter could only land at 2,600 m
Because of adverse weather, the crew could deploy rescue units only at about 2,600 m altitude. They then had to walk roughly 3,200 m on the mountain, a climb estimated at two hours.
Two climbers escape injury
A pair of other mountaineers managed to survive the slide and were eventually rescued.
