Five Die in Libyan Military Plane Crash in Turkey

A Falcon 50 business jet crashed over Haymana, Turkey, killing all five passengers, including Libya’s chief of staff, on Tuesday evening.

Crash Details

The Falcon 50 departed Ankara‑Esenboğa airport at 20:10 local time on Tuesday, lost contact after about 40 minutes, and was found 2 km south of Kesikkavak village in the Haymana district. Turkish Defence Minister Ali Yerlikaya reported the wreckage location.

Fatalities

All five on board died. They included Libya’s chief of staff, General Mohammed Al‑Haddad; his deputy, General Al‑Fitouri Ghraibila; Brigadier General Mahmoud Al‑Qatawi; adviser Professor Muhammad Al‑Asawi Diab; and a press photographer, Professor Muhammad Omar Ahmed Mahjoub.

Libyan officials described the tragedy as a great loss for the nation, noting that the deceased were senior officers exemplifying discipline, responsibility, and national commitment.

Diplomatic Context

The Libyan delegation had returned from an official visit to Turkey, with the victims among those attending meetings with Turkish counterparts en route to Tripoli.
