Flashes on the Line Between Foreign Ministry and Presidential Palace: Spokesperson Reveals Backstage, ‘Disappointing’

Polish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maciej Wewiór says the ministry has received no briefings after President Karol Nawrocki’s talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, calling the omission disappointing.

Spokesperson reports no FM briefings

On December 9, Wewiór posted on his X account that the foreign ministry has not received any notes following President Nawrocki’s conversations with President Trump that were scheduled in recent months. He said it was “disappointing” that the President’s office abandoned the practice of informing the FM.

55 days of silence on ambassador appointments

Wewiór added that his ministry has had 55 days without a reply to a letter addressed to the president concerning ambassadors, and that he has not been invited to a meeting with the head of state. He warned that “although we hear about it in the media next week, it serves no interest of the Republic.”

Foreign Ministry ready to meet the president

Earlier, the foreign ministry declared its readiness to meet the president on foreign‑policy matters while awaiting Nawrocki’s invitation. On the same day, presidential minister Marcin Przydacz announced that after Christmas a meeting between the president and Minister Sikorski would address the “paralysis of the Polish foreign service.” He also noted recent telephone talks between Nawrocki and Trump.

Sikorski publishes letter to resolve ambassador issues

In the week before, Minister Sikorski published a scan of a letter he sent to President Nawrocki, declaring his willingness to resolve the ambassador appointment problem. He expressed readiness to change the candidate for the Washington post.

Minister disputes proposal to sign ambassador nominations

“One of the President’s advisers publicly said that Karol Nawrocki had submitted to me a proposal to sign the nomination of 40 Polish ambassadors, which I had to reject. It is the opposite,” Sikorski wrote on X in early December, attaching a scan of a letter dated 15 October.
