A 20-year-old driver led police on a high-speed chase after failing to stop for a speed check, resulting in a collision and his arrest in Płońsk County.
Speed Check Escalates to High-Speed Chase
On Friday (January 16) before 9 AM in Dzierzążnia, Płońsk County, traffic police were conducting speed checks in a built-up area. The officers noticed an Audi traveling at excessive speed, which was measured at 72 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.
When one of the officers signaled the driver to stop using a sign, the man instead accelerated and fled toward Płock. The police immediately pursued in their patrol car, using light and sound signals, but the Audi driver completely ignored them.
Collision and Attempted Escape on Foot
During the high-speed chase, the driver overtook a line of vehicles. At one point, he lost control of the car, skidded, hit a traffic island and road sign, and then collided head-on with an oncoming Mercedes truck. After immobilizing his vehicle, he exited and attempted to escape on foot, hiding in bushes near a property before being quickly apprehended by the officers.
Multiple Traffic Violations and Prior Offenses
The detained driver was identified as a 20-year-old resident of Płońsk County. Police checks revealed that in December of last year, he had lost his driver’s license for exceeding the penalty point limit. Additionally, the man was wearing an electronic monitoring device and had been previously noted for offenses including fraud and battery.
For speeding, the officers issued him a 300 zł fine and 5 penalty points. For endangering road traffic, he received another 3000 zł fine and 10 penalty points. The Audi was impounded, and its registration certificate was electronically confiscated.
Criminal Charges Filed
The 20-year-old was taken to the Płońsk County Police Station, where he was charged with failing to stop for a road check. For this offense, he faces a possible prison sentence of up to 5 years.
