On Tuesday, May 19, at 2:56 p.m., a Ford delivery van collided with an excavator on the Natalińska Street railway crossing in Otrębusy, causing major traffic and rail delays.
Collision and Impact
The incident occurred on the WKD tracks heading toward Warsaw. Construction work involving an excavator was underway near the crossing when a Ford delivery van entered the area, striking the machinery moving toward Grodzisk Mazowiecki.
The force of the impact caused the delivery van to tip onto its side, obstructing the crossing. This forced a complete halt to both road and rail traffic, resulting in significant disruptions for commuters and local drivers.
Emergency Response and Medical Assessment
Firefighters secured the scene, while two medical rescue teams evaluated both the van driver and the excavator operator. Neither man sustained serious injuries during the crash.
In line with recent protocols for railway-related incidents, Territorial Defense Force (WOT) personnel were present to assist in securing the location. Both individuals involved were confirmed to be Polish citizens, held valid licenses, and were found to be sober.
Traffic Restoration and Legal Outcome
Emergency services worked on-site to remove the wreckage and clear the scene. Normal traffic flow for both vehicles and the WKD suburban rail line was successfully restored by approximately 4:30 p.m.
The case has been forwarded for judicial review. According to police investigators, the driver of the Ford delivery van is responsible for causing the collision.
