PKP Polish Railways released video footage of the incident at the crossing in Błon on Poniatowskiego Street, which is equipped with barriers and traffic lights.
The incident occurred when a Ford Focus car became immobilized on the tracks due to damage to the left front wheel suspension, preventing the vehicle from moving off the crossing.
Collision Sequence
The driver attempted to push the car from the tracks but couldn’t do so before an approaching train. Police were already at the scene before the collision.
The first collision involved a PKP Intercity train traveling from Szczecin Główny to Rzeszów Główny. After being struck, the car was pushed onto the second track where it was hit by another Intercity express train traveling from Warsaw to Berlin.
Aftermath
The impacts caused a fire that completely engulfed the car wreckage and the front of the BWE locomotive.
