Former TVP Chief Claims Smiling Security Check; Ministry Calls Statement Politicised

Former TVP chief Jacek Kurski posted on X that a Brussels Airlines flight to Warsaw was inspected at Okęcie Airport, calling the encounter a “smiling curiosity,” prompting a rebuttal from the Polish Interior Ministry that the check was routine and that his remarks were politicised.

Kurski’s Claim of a “Smiling” Check

Former TVP chief Jacek Kurski posted on X, citing a control at Okęcie Airport where passengers of Brussels Airlines flight SN 2555 were searched. He described the encounter as a “smiling curiosity” and said he had no reason to verify the check, that women were not checked, and a man was searched.

Ministerial Response Labels the Check Routine

Karolina Gałecka, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior and Administration, replied that the Okęcie security inspection was a routine activity aimed at passenger safety. She said linking it to a specific politician was an attempt to politicise the work of uniformed services and reaffirmed that searching for Zbigniew Z. is a state duty.

Political Claims and Allegations of “False Zinc”

Other users on X spread claims that the police were giving a “false zinc” to a Polish MP. Gałecka called such allegations absurd and a mockery of law enforcement, stressing that the real question is why a minister sought for justice appears on TV instead of cooperating with authorities.

Prosecutor’s Request for Temporary Arrest of Zbigniew Ziobro

On Thursday, former Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek urged Zbigniew Ziobro to appear before the prosecutor’s office. The prosecutor later filed a motion for temporary detention after the Sejm lifted Ziobro’s immunity. Ziobro is alleged to have committed 26 crimes, including leading a criminal gang, and is suspected of operating in Hungary.
