Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that four individuals have been detained following a series of coordinated false alarms targeting politicians and public figures across Poland, with further arrests expected soon.
Investigations Into Targeted Harassment
Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński initially reported the detention of three individuals in their twenties, noting they had prior criminal records. He clarified that all suspects are Polish citizens and their motives remain under investigation.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk later confirmed a fourth arrest on Thursday and noted that two suspects have already been placed in custody. Tusk stated it is too early to determine if the acts were coordinated or merely the actions of internet provocateurs.
Recidivism and Tactical Response
Reports suggest that one of the men detained on Wednesday had been released from custody just weeks prior, where he faced similar charges related to issuing false threats.
Between May 10 and May 15, police conducted 12 separate interventions involving reports of explosives and threats to life. In one instance, authorities used force to enter the Gdańsk home of the mother of Karol Nawrocki.
High-Profile Targets
The wave of false alarms has triggered emergency meetings between the Prime Minister and security officials. The Gdańsk District Prosecutor’s Office officially launched an investigation on Monday.
Targets of these false reports include TV Republika editor-in-chief Tomasz Sakiewicz, regarding a threat to a minor, and PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński, whose Warsaw property was searched following claims of hidden explosives.
