Four Teens Arrested for Robbery of U.S. Citizen in Warsaw Metro

Four minors aged 14-16 pepper-sprayed and robbed an American citizen and his son in a Warsaw metro station.

Arrest of Suspects

Police from Warsaw’s District II Police Station, in cooperation with officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Division for Combating Hooliganism, have detained four individuals suspected of robbing a U.S. citizen and his son. The incident occurred in the Mokotów district. The perpetrators, aged 14 to 16, first used pepper spray against the victims before taking their backpack. Three of the suspects were placed in a juvenile shelter by a family court decision.

Crime Details

According to police, a group of young men had been following the victims from the Śródmieście district. The perpetrators rode the same metro train as the men, then got off together with them at one of the metro stations in Mokotów. There, they attacked them using physical violence and pepper spray. During the incident, they took a backpack containing clothing and scarves of a Warsaw sports club.

After committing the crime, the perpetrators scattered in different directions, partially using public transportation. Police immediately launched intensive operational activities. Officers secured and analyzed surveillance footage from numerous cameras in the metro and its surroundings, reconstructing the exact course of events.

Previous Incidents

Through the work of police officers from Warsaw’s District II Police Station and support from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Division for Combating Hooliganism, the identities of the perpetrators were quickly established. Four young men aged 14, 15 and 16 were arrested.

It turned out that this was not the only crime the teenagers had committed. Police determined that in mid-February, a similar incident occurred where a fan of the same sports club was attacked at a metro station and deprived of a club scarf. The collected evidence linked the same perpetrators to that incident.

Legal Proceedings

By order of the family court, three of the detained were placed in juvenile shelters. One of the detained, after completing procedural actions including interrogation, was released.

In cases involving minors, criminal acts are considered by the family court within juvenile proceedings. Depending on the nature of the act and circumstances, the court may apply various educational, corrective or therapeutic measures against minors, including supervision by a curator, referral to an educational center, or placement in a juvenile shelter.
