Fraudster Arrested After Attempt to Defraud Couple of 30,000 Złoty

A 41-year-old man was arrested in Warsaw, Poland, after attempting to defraud a couple out of 30,000 złoty by posing as postal and police officials.

Swift Action Prevents Financial Loss

Criminal investigators from the Wawer district police station quickly apprehended a suspect attempting fraud, preventing the victims from losing 30,000 złoty.

The suspect has been charged and, at the request of the Warsaw-Praga Południe District Prosecutor’s Office, has been temporarily arrested by the court.

Impersonating Authorities

The fraudsters pretended to be employees of the post office and the police, claiming the victims’ money was at risk and needed to be withdrawn and handed over to a designated individual to prevent crime and facilitate an investigation.

Wife Alerts Police

Initially, the scammers contacted a woman who disbelieved their story and reported it to the police station on Mrówcza Street for verification.

Husband Nearly Falls Victim

The fraudsters then contacted the woman’s husband, who was home alone, and he was persuaded to help. He went to the bank without informing his wife.

Upon hearing the details from the wife, Wawer investigators immediately acted, recognizing the urgency of preventing the money transfer.

Police Intercept Victim

The husband had already arrived at a shopping center on the other side of the city and was not answering his phone.

Police successfully located him and prepared to apprehend the suspect.

Arrest Made During Exchange

The suspect was caught in the act while meeting the victim to receive the envelope containing the money.

Charges and Detention

The 41-year-old was promptly arrested. The 30,000 złoty remained with its rightful owners.

Based on the evidence gathered, the suspect was charged with attempted fraud. The Warsaw-Praga Południe District Prosecutor’s Office requested a temporary arrest, which the court granted for a period of two months.
