Freeze Closes Schools. Classes Cancelled in Over 500 Polish Institutions

Schools across Poland are closed or operating remotely due to extreme cold and heating issues affecting over 500 educational facilities.

Wielkopolska Province Hardest Hit

The most serious situation is in the Wielkopolska province, where classes were cancelled in 379 schools. Of these, 97 institutions have switched to remote teaching due to low temperatures and heating problems in their buildings.

Lubuskie and Pomorskie Also Affected

In the Lubuskie province, classes are not held in 102 schools, with 45 operating remotely. In Pomorskie, 19 schools have closed, including 10 teaching online.

Other Regions with Issues

In Mazowsze, classes were cancelled in 25 schools, with 10 conducting remote teaching. In Warmia-Mazury, 5 schools have closed. In the Silesian province, closures are unrelated to weather; they’re due to heating furnace failures in the institutions.

Nationwide Transportation and Weather Warnings

Schools aren’t the only ones affected. PKP Intercity announced on February 5 that trains may face significant delays, particularly in western Poland. The IMGW has issued freezing rain and difficult road conditions warnings for the entire country, advising people to stay home unless necessary.
