Poland faces a return of severe cold next week, with temperatures expected to plummet to as low as -20°C after a brief respite.
Icy Conditions Across Poland
Severe frost has returned to Poland, with freezing rain occurring in almost the entire country. The precipitation is causing black ice, making roads and sidewalks slippery. Alerts for level 2 freezing rain are in effect in most northern and central Poland until late evening.
Temperature Forecast
On Sunday morning, the warmest area was Sądecczyzna, where thermometers in Nowy Sącz showed 5.2°C. The southeastern part of the country is the warmest with slightly positive temperatures. On the other end, Suwałki recorded nearly -9°C. During the afternoon, evening, and in central Poland, temperatures are expected to rise to as much as 6°C. Only Pomerania will experience light frost.
Next Week’s Temperature Drop
However, a clear temperature drop is expected at the beginning of the new week. From Sunday night to Monday night (February 8 to 9), strong frosts will return to Poland. With clear skies in the northeastern part of the country, temperatures may drop to as low as -20°C. Frost will also reach central Poland, where IMGW forecasts around -11°C.
Extended Weather Alerts and Rail Disruptions
IMGW has extended alerts for freezing rain for Lower Silesia and Opole until noon. Due to difficult weather conditions, railway disruptions are occurring in Lower Silesia, Greater Poland, and Lubusz Voivodeship. Problems have been reported on the Rudna Gwizdanów-Głogów, Lubań-Gierałtów, Węgliniec-Bielawa, and Wrocław-Leszno routes. PKP PLK explained that while other lines are passable, trains may experience delays from previous interventions and the dynamic weather situation.
