“Gag Rule” Passed in Poland 2050 as Aleksandra Leo Declares ‘Symbolic End’

Poland’s 2050 party passed a gag rule suspending personnel changes until March 21, sparking resignations and claims of undemocratic process.

Moratorium Proposal and Criticism

Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz proposed a temporary suspension of personnel changes in Poland 2050 until March 21. The party’s National Council passed this resolution on Saturday, February 14. The move aimed to “introduce peace,” but faced fierce criticism from some party politicians.

MP Żaneta Cwalina-Śliwowska called it “undemocratic” and “unconstitutional” and announced her resignation from Poland 2050.

Leo’s Resignation and Concerns

Aleksandra Leo shared similar views, labeling the idea a “forceful solution.” She stated: “We are now acting solidly in a group of MPs, female MPs, and senators. We will decide in the coming days what to do. This is a very difficult time. Today’s gag rule, which takes away our voice, is the symbolic end of Poland 2050, the party I joined.”

Procedural Accusations

On Polsat News, Aleksandra Leo also challenged the procedure for calling the National Council, stating: “Today’s meeting was convened without observing the three-day deadline. We were blocked from filling vacancies in the National Council.” She added that Chairman Paweł Śliz broke the rules on Friday, February 13.

Leo explained: “We requested an immediate convening of the club meeting. This did not happen. The club chairman did not convene one; it will only be held in two weeks.” She argued the rules allow the chairman to be both accuser and judge in disciplinary matters, which is why they sought to change the regulations.
