A historic Gdańsk villa, previously housing U.S. and Chinese consulates, has been transferred to the National School of Judiciary and Prosecution (KSSiP).
New Training Center for Judges
Gdańsk is emerging as a key location for training judicial personnel. The historic villa at 1 Aleja Grunwaldzka, valued at over 4 million złoty, has been officially transferred to the National School of Judiciary and Prosecution (KSSiP).
This strategic investment by the State Treasury strengthens the educational potential of northern Poland and restores a prestigious function to one of the most iconic buildings in the Tricity area.
A History of Diplomacy
The new KSSiP headquarters is a building with a rich and multi-layered diplomatic history, serving as a venue for international relations for decades. Immediately after World War II, the representative villa from the early 20th century housed the U.S. Consulate General, becoming one of the few points of contact with the West at the time.
In subsequent decades, the building served as a diplomatic facility for the People’s Republic of China, permanently etching itself into the consciousness of residents as a place of high state importance.
Decentralizing Legal Education
The decision to establish a branch in Gdańsk directly responds to the growing economic and infrastructural importance of the Pomeranian region. Decentralizing legal education aims to attract young talent from northern Poland, offering access to high-quality training without requiring permanent relocation to the school’s headquarters in Kraków.
The inauguration, held at the University of Gdańsk, confirms the center’s integration with the local academic community, crucial for building competent judicial elites.
Modernization and Implementation
Although the target building on Aleja Grunwaldzka requires extensive modernization and adaptation to meet modern didactic requirements, training for the first applicants will begin without delay. Classes are temporarily held at Arkońska Street, while advanced preparations are underway in the historic villa to create a professional technical infrastructure and lecture halls.
This investment will fully utilize the potential of the monument, combining unique architecture with the public mission of educating future prosecutors and judges.
A New Chapter for a Gdańsk Landmark
The completion of the property transfer on March 28, 2026, closes a period of uncertainty regarding the fate of this valuable object, simultaneously opening a new chapter in its over-century-long biography. By assigning it an educational function, the historic villa will not only avoid destruction but will become a vibrant center for legal thought exchange.
The development of the Gdańsk branch of KSSiP is a clear signal that the state is focusing on the professionalization of personnel in regions with the greatest development potential, while also protecting national architectural heritage.
