The Genoa low-pressure system delivered rain and snow to Poland’s mountains, but current rainfall totals suggest a flood threat is unlikely.
Mountain Snowfall and Rainfall
Snow fell overnight and this morning in the Tatra and Beskid Mountains, with precipitation expected to continue for several days. The Beskids are forecast to receive 10-15 cm of fresh snow, while higher elevations in the Tatras could see 20-25 cm.
Intense rainfall is occurring in southern Poland, with potential for localized rises in mountain rivers and streams.
Flood Risk Assessment
The Genoa low-pressure system caused flooding in September 2024. However, current models predict rainfall totals of 100-200 mm, significantly lower than the 400-500 mm experienced during the September event, which was an extremely rare occurrence.
Weekend Weather Forecast
The weekend is expected to bring scattered showers. Saturday will see some clearing on the northeast and west of the country, while the south and southeast may continue to experience occasional showers. Similar conditions are expected on Sunday, with rain also anticipated in the Szczecin Lowlands.
Temperature Trends
After a cold atmospheric front and a temperature drop, warmer weather is returning. Temperatures could reach 8-10°C on Saturday in eastern Poland.
Sunday will be even warmer, with eastern Poland potentially reaching 12-14°C. Other regions are expected to see temperatures around 9-12°C. Temperatures will remain similar on Monday.
Health & Nutrition Note
