German Shop Owner Sparks Outrage with Anti-Semitic Sign

A 60-year-old German shop owner displayed a sign in his storefront saying “Jews are not allowed here,” sparking widespread outrage and condemnation in Flensburg.

Controversial Sign

The sign, posted in the window of a store in Flensburg, Germany, read “Jews are not allowed here” and included a smaller note stating, “No personal animosity, no anti-Semitism, I just can’t stand you.” The sign was put up by Hans Velten Reisch, the 60-year-old owner of the store, which sells technical literature.

Official Reactions

The mayor of Flensburg, Fabian Geyer, described the incident as a “reminder of the darkest chapters in German history” and emphasized that there is no place for such attitudes in the city. Former mayor Simone Lange reported the incident to the police, and German Education Minister Karin Prien condemned Reisch’s behavior.

Owner’s Explanation

Reisch claimed he is not an anti-Semite and put up the sign to protest Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip. He stated he did not want to serve customers who support Israel’s actions and emphasized he has nothing against Jews who distance themselves from the war.
