Germany Increases Air Patrol Over Poland, France Mobilizes Jets in Response to Russian Drone Incursions

Germany has doubled its fighter jet patrols over Poland in response to increasing Russian drone incursions, while France announced it will deploy additional jets to support Polish airspace.

Germany Doubles Fighter Jet Patrols Over Poland

Germany’s Ministry of Defense has expanded the joint fighter jet mission over Polish airspace. Initially intended to last until September 30th, the patrol will now continue through December 31st with the added presence of an additional two Eurofighter jets. The jets are stationed at the Laage airbase near Poland’s eastern border in the Swinoujscie region.

France Mobilizes Three Rafale Jets, Backs Poland’s Eastern Defense

Following Russian drone incursions into Polish airspace, French President Emmanuel Macron has mobilized three Rafale fighter jets in support of Poland’s airspace defense. In a social media post, Macron stated that the decision was made to strengthen the protection of Poland’s airspace and the eastern flank of Europe alongside NATO allies. The French President also disclosed that he had discussed the matter with NATO Secretary-General and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, who has pledged support to the eastern flank’s defense.

Polish President Visits Berlin for Security Discussions

Polish President Karol Nawrocki is set to meet with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin on Tuesday. The meeting will focus on recent events, including the Russian drone incursions into Polish airspace, bilateral cooperation, particularly in international security policy, and continued support for Ukraine. Despite Poland’s demand for reparations, Germany’s government remains unchanged in its stance, with Chancellor Merz acknowledging the issue but marking it as definitively closed.
