Germany Loses US Troops; Poland and Lithuania Vow to Host Them

During a visit to Lithuania, Karol Nawrocki declared that Poland is ready to host American soldiers if Donald Trump decides to reduce US military components in Germany.

Regional Readiness for US Troops

Karol Nawrocki, during a visit to Lithuania on Wednesday, declared that if Donald Trump decides to reduce US military components in Germany, Poland is ready to host the American soldiers.

Nawrocki emphasized that it is the task of the Polish president to convince Donald Trump to keep these soldiers in Europe—specifically in Poland or the Baltic states—to protect the security of Central and Eastern Europe.

Lithuanian and Polish Strategic Interests

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda expressed a similar stance, stating that NATO allies must do everything to ensure the United States does not turn away from Europe and that Lithuania is ready to accept more allied forces.

Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz added that increasing the US military presence is a strategic goal for Poland, asserting that there is no secure Europe without the presence of American soldiers.

US Troop Withdrawals from Germany

Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth recently announced the withdrawal of approximately 5,000 soldiers from Germany over the next 6 to 12 months, though Donald Trump suggested the reduction could be larger than previously announced.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz noted that while there are differences regarding the war with Iran, the United States remains Germany’s most important NATO partner and that troop reductions have long been a subject of discussion.
