Grzegorz Braun Summoned to Prosecutor’s Office; New Interrogation Date Set

Polish MEP Grzegorz Braun faces a new interrogation date after being summoned to the prosecutor’s office regarding a hospital incident.

Hospital Incident

In April of last year, MEP Grzegorz Braun of the Konfederacja Korony Polskiej, along with a group of about a dozen people, stormed into a hospital in Oleśnica. The group claimed they wanted to “citizen-arrest” gynecologist Dr. Gizela Jagielska, who had performed a legal abortion. The doctor was unable to leave her office for nearly an hour. Police arrived at the scene.

In August, charges were brought against Konfederacja Korony Pols activist Marta Cz., who is suspected, among other things, of preventing the doctor from leaving her office and violating her bodily integrity by holding her hands. Marta Cz. did not admit to the charges.

Immunity Lift Request

In June, then Prosecutor General Adam Bodnar submitted a request to the European Parliament to lift Grzegorz Braun’s immunity. The request stated that the prosecutor’s office wants to charge the politician with, among other things, depriving the doctor of her freedom, violating her physical integrity by “pushing and holding her hands,” insulting and slandering the gynecologist. In November, the European Parliament agreed to hold Braun accountable.

Braun’s Interrogation

According to rmf24.pl, based on PAP findings, Grzegorz Braun’s interrogation at the District Prosecutor’s Office in Wrocław was scheduled for January 13, but the politician presented a medical leave. A new date was set for February 17. At that time, the MEP was to hear the charges.
