Police in Łódź, Poland, intervened in a smoky building on Legionów Street on Thursday, rescuing a 79-year-old man and a police officer.
Łódź Intervention: Rescue from a Smoke-Filled Building
The intervention took place on Thursday in an apartment building on Legionów Street in Łódź. First responding officers entered the smoke-filled building, aware a man might be on the third floor.
“In the thick smoke, they noticed a person collapsing to the floor. They caught the 79-year-old and carried him one floor down to another apartment, ensuring his safety,” stated asp. Kamila Sowińska of the Łódź City Police Headquarters.
Officer Overcome by Fumes
“The officers then returned to check if anyone else in the building needed help. As a result of gas poisoning from the fire, the policewoman lost consciousness,” the report continued.
Fire Department Takes Over, Both Hospitalized
Firefighters then took over further actions. Both the 79-year-old man and the policewoman were transported to the hospital. Łódź police published a short, but emotional video online showing the rescue operation.
The footage demonstrates the speed and intensity of emergency services’ response to dangerous situations.
