On Wednesday 29 October, Tatra‑area police received a report of a 76‑year‑old man’s disappearance during mushroom picking near Gubałówka. The family initially searched alone before calling police due to darkness and expected low temperatures. The search included police, firefighters, rescue teams, and volunteers.
Drone locates the missing man
Police drones equipped with infrared cameras spotted the man on a cleared meadow. The sighting allowed authorities to direct officers immediately to the spot.
Extensive search and rescue operations
Dozens of people, rescue vehicles, quads, drones, and tracking dogs participated in the search around Gubałówka.
Suspected homicide, body recovered
Despite the rescue efforts, the man was found dead. Police investigators and prosecutors examined the scene, secured the body for further examination, and preliminarily excluded involvement of third parties.
