Head‑on Collision Leaves Passenger Critical

A head‑on crash near Iłów on 23 November smashed a Suzuki Swift into a Mercedes ML320, injuring the drivers and rendering the Suzuki passenger in critical condition.

Collision Details

At about 16:30 on 23 November, a 30‑year‑old woman driving a Suzuki Swift collided head‑on with a Mercedes ML320 near the village of Sztęg, in Sochaczew County.

Hospitalizations

Both vehicle drivers and the Suzuki passenger were transported to local hospitals; the passenger remains in critical condition.

Road Closure and Detours

The stretch between Iłów and Giżyca was blocked for several hours. Drivers were directed onto designated detours while police performed procedural duties on site.

Police Investigation

Police from the Sochaczew road service and an expert remain at the scene, conducting a detailed investigation to determine the causes and circumstances of the accident.

Safety Recommendations

Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution. Road surfaces may be slick and conditions can change rapidly. It is advised to shift from summer to winter driving habits—braking earlier, turning the wheel smoothly, and avoiding abrupt maneuvers. Winter tyres, though not obligatory, provide better grip at low temperatures, shorten stopping distances, and improve control.

Adjust speeds to traffic conditions, maintain a safe following distance, and remember that stopping distances on slick roads are significantly longer. Proper vehicle preparation is essential: remove snow and ice from vehicles, clear windows and lights, check windshield wipers, and consider switching to rubber wipers to reduce fogging.
