High-Speed Pursuit Leads to Arrest of ‘Grandson’ Scam Suspect

A 30-year-old man suspected of ‘grandson’ scams led police on a high-speed chase before being arrested in Biała Podlaska.

Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase

A 30-year-old man taken into custody by police in the Miński district was placed in temporary detention. The man suspected of involvement in “police officer” scams tried to evade responsibility. He did not stop for inspection, and his reckless driving created a real danger to other road users. A preliminary examination showed that he was under the influence of drugs. He faces up to 8 years in prison.

Scam Attempts Prompt Police Investigation

On Thursday afternoon in the Białski district, attempts of “police officer” scams occurred. The perpetrator informed victims in two cases that their money was at risk due to planned burglaries against them. Therefore, it was necessary to secure cash. Due to incoming reports, officials fighting property crime noticed a Ford driver. The man, however, had no intention of stopping for inspection.

Pursuit Leads to Arrest

The officers immediately began chasing the high-speed driver. During the escape, the “road pirate” behind the wheel blocked the road to officials, preventing arrest and endangering other road users. In the Miński district, he abandoned the vehicle and continued the escape on foot. Miński district officials actively joined the action, leading to the arrest of the 30-year-old suspected of driving.

Charges Filed for Multiple Offenses

During the investigation, police confirmed that the man has “more offenses” on his record. The evidence gathered in the case allowed for charges to be brought against him for involvement in scams that occurred in the Lublin and Podlaskie voivodeships, where he received cash of over 100,000 złoty from two victims. The man will also be held accountable for attempted frauds in the Białski district.

Reckless Driving Charge Added

Due to the driver’s gross exceeding of the permissible speed limit, as well as the gross violation of road safety rules, the man was also charged with reckless driving introduced to the Criminal Code by an amendment that came into force on January 29.

Court Orders Temporary Detention

The man was brought to the prosecutor’s office where he heard the charges. Over the weekend, the Białski court, at the request of the Police and Prosecutor’s Office, applied a preventive measure against the man in the form of temporary detention. The 30-year-old faces up to 8 years in prison.
